ST. LOUIS -- Autographs from NL MVP Albert Pujols will go for $150 apiece and NL Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter's signature will fetch $90 -- all for charity at the St. Louis Cardinals' 10th annual Winter Warmup this weekend.
Virtually the entire team will make appearances at the three-day event which begins today at a downtown hotel near the team's new stadium. Also attending are Hall of Famers Stan Musial and Red Schoendienst, current and former managers Tony La Russa and Whitey Herzog, and a lengthy list of former players including Tommy Herr, Jack Clark and Tom Pagnozzi.
And the Cardinals announced Friday that the newly-elected member of the Hall of Fame, reliever Bruce Sutter, will attend, signing autographs at 3 p.m. Monday.
Many players' autographs are free with an admission pass while other require an autograph ticket available through additional donations. Among the prices: Jim Ed-monds ($80), Ozzie Smith ($75), Herr ($30) and former phenom turned minor league outfielder Rick Ankiel ($10).
Interestingly, La Russa, who has led the team to the postseason in six of his 10 seasons, will sign autographs on Sunday and Monday for $15. Herzog, who produced the team's last World Series winner in 1982, will sign on Saturday and Sunday for $50.
The event, which features interactive exhibits and sales of baseball cards and memorabilia, is being held in conjunction with the annual Baseball Writers Association of America dinner on Monday night. The dinner held by the St. Louis chapter of the BBWAA, will honor the Cardinals' NLCS team along with the all-Busch Stadium team.
