Central junior boys basketball player Darnell Wilks poured in 33 points to lead the Tigers to a 74-70 win over Eureka on Monday in the opening round of the Mobil On the Run Classic at Northwest High School.

The Tigers improved to 2-2 and will play Marquette on Friday in the semifinals. Marquette knocked off Rolla in the other opening round game on Monday.

"He really played well," Central coach Derek McCord said of Wilks. "Darnell was able to get in the lane and get some things done."

David Deisher added 14 points for Central.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Lady Devils Invitational

Second-seeded Kelly routed No. 7 Scott City 56-22 in the opening round of the Lady Devils Invitational Tournament at Chaffee.

Debra Hall led the Hawks with 18 oints, and Kayla Cissell added 16.

Kelly will take on the winner of Wednesday's Chaffee-Sikeston game in a semifinal on Thursday.

Top-seeded Delta will take on No. 4 Oran, a 50-49 winner over Scott County Central, in the semifinal round on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Oran missed 16 of 27 free throws but managed to edge the No. 5 Bravettes in another first-round game.

Erica Michaelsen scored a game-high 25 points for Oran (2-1), followed by Windy Eftink with 11.

Brittney Peet led Scott County Central with 16 points, and Amanda Lawless added 12.
