Inez Uhls Fiehler, the wife of Southeast Missouri State's late, legendary baseball coach Joe Uhls, recently died in Victoria, Texas. She was 83.
Uhls Fiehler was a Southeast employee for 29 years as a circulation desk clerk in the Kent Library.
Following the death of Joe Uhls, Uhls Fiehler initiated the "Joe Uhls Baseball Fund," which provides contributions to the Southeast baseball program.
Southeast baseball players have used the "Tiger" Joe Uhls locker room for the past decade. Uhls Fiehler contributed to the locker room and gave Southeast permission to use her husband's name.
The locker room features 35 professional-style lockers, along with restrooms, showers and equipment storage. In 2005, the locker room was renovated and hardwood floors were added. A state-of-the-art entertainment system provides scouting features and leisure time for players.
"Thanks to Inez, our program truly has a place that we can call home, and our locker room is just that," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said in a release. "Inez and Joe combined for 59 years at Southeast, and our program is grateful for her dedication and generosity. She will be greatly missed."
Southeast announced the hiring of Nathan Saverino as the department's coordinator of marketing and promotions.
Saverino, who begins his new position Wednesday, will oversee marketing and promotions for all Southeast athletic teams, events and brand.
Saverino was the marketing and promotions assistant for the University of Tulsa department of athletics this fall.
Saverino served as the marketing and promotions graduate assistant at Southeast before his year at Tulsa.
Saverino earned his graduate degree in athletic administration from Southeast in 2010. He earned his undergraduate degree in sports management from Southeast in 2008, graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and earning summa cum laude honors.
