JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson's Mario Whitney streaked to one of the fastest times in Missouri schoolboy history at the Jackson Invitational track and field meet Saturday.

Whitney's 100-meter dash time of 10.2 seconds was not only a school, track and meet record, but ranks with the best in the country thus far in 2002.

"He (Whitney) can be an Olympic caliber sprinter, if he wants to be," Jackson coach Bob Sink said.

Poplar Bluff took the boys title, followed by Sikeston, Perryville, Jackson and Cape Girardeau Central in a division of 15 teams.

Jackson captured the girls' championship, edging Lafayette and Central. The girls' division consisted of 14 teams.

Central's Becky Komorech vaulted nine feet to tie a school record.
