Jesse Whistler rushed for 133 yards and scored all three Perryville touchdowns, leading the Pirates to a 19-14 football victory over visiting De Soto Friday night.
Whistler, who carried 14 times, was part of a Perryville rushing attack that piled up 300 yards. Joel Kurre gained 100 yards on 18 carries and Matt Unterreiner added 51 yards on nine attempts. The Pirates attempted just three passes, completing none.
Perryville improved to 2-5 as it won for the second time in its last three games. De Soto fell to 1-6.
"It was a good win for us," Perryville coach Lance Bell said. "We wanted to try to get a little momentum going into districts next week and we did that."
Whistler's 29-yard run in the first quarter gave Perryville a 6-0 lead, but De Soto came back to go up 7-6 later in the period.
In the second quarter, Whistler scored on a 2-yard run for a 12-7 Perryville lead. That was the halftime score.
De Soto went up 14-12 in the third quarter, but the Pirates took the lead for good later in the period on Whistler's 62-yard run. The Dragons reached Perryville's 15-yard line as the game ended.
Boys' soccer
NOTRE DAME 2, ST. PIUS 1
Dustin Tatum scored on a cross from Jonathan Market with a minute and a half left to lift Notre Dame (11-4) to a home victory.
The Bulldogs got their first goal from Tyler Cuba as he scored with three minutes left in the first half. St. Pius scored its goal minutes after halftime on a free kick just outside the penalty box.
Notre Dame's JV (9-1-3) also won, 3-1. Frankie Ellis scored a pair of goals.
Volleyball
ADVANCE 15-15, WOODLAND 1-0
Advance (22-7-1) defeated visiting Woodland (0-20) handily, only allowing one point.
Dana Williams led the way again for the Hornets with seven kills and six service aces. Nicole Tropf also had six aces. Jennifer Schrader had two digs and Alicia Broshuis added seven assists.
Advance's JV (16-7) also defeated Woodland 15-13, 15-4.
OCAC Tournament
Eagle Ridge Christian of Cape Girardeau defeated host New Salem Baptist of Marble Hill 15-13, 15-11 to win the four-team Ozark Christian Athletic Conference Tournament.
In the first round, top-seeded Eagle Ridge (14-1) beat No. 4 People's Christian of Arnold 15-8, 15-4 and No. 3 New Salem (10-8) defeated No. 2 Southern Missouri Christian of Poplar Bluff 15-10, 17-15.
Southern Missouri captured third place with a 16-14, 15-4 win over People's.
Eagle Ridge was led in the tournament by Cara Ervin with 17 service points, including 11 aces, 13 kills and two blocks. Rachael Carbaugh added nine kills, nine points and six aces while Savanna Irizarry served 11 points.
For New Salem, Holly Jordan had 18 kills and eight service points, including six aces. MacKenzie Jones had 13 assists, seven points and four digs. Mary Poole added 10 assists, seven digs and six points.
Picked for the all-conference team following the tournament were Eagle Ridge's Ervin and Carbaugh; New Salem's Jordan and Jones; Southern Missouri's Jennifer Newman; and Amanda Whelehon of People's.
