The Westwood Baptist Eagles boys basketball team took the court Friday with one goal in mind: to dominate its opponent, Thomas Jefferson of St. Louis.
And dominate they did, as they dismantled TJS with a crushing 69-19 victory.
The Westwood Baptist boys were on a mission from the start, with Ben Jones leading the charge with a game-high 21 points, followed closely by James Hawley with 20 points.
“The boys came out on fire and stayed that way all night,” said Westwood Baptist head coach Josh Hawley.
Doniphan 55, Saxony Lutheran 49
At Doniphan, the host Dons nearly rallied from a 14-point deficit, but came up just short against Saxony Lutheran.
Doniphan (13-6) trailed 44-30 at the beginning of the final period, but cut its deficit to four points late.
Emmitt Jones paced the Dons with 15 points, while Max Owen added 12 and Kam Barton finished with 11. Luke Eggemeyer led Saxony Lutheran with a game-high 22 points.
GIRLS
Westwood Baptist 44, TJS 11
The Westwood Baptist girls basketball team left no doubt about who was in control as the Lady Eagles dominated Thomas Jefferson of St. Louis Friday.
The Westwood Baptist girls were on fire from the opening tip, with Chloe Dodd, Natalie Kilhafner, and Katie Gross leading the way, each scoring 10 points.
“It was senior night and our senior Chloe Dodd had a great night with 10 points,” said Westwood Baptist head coach Josh Hawley.
Big Springs Conference Tournament
Ellington 47, Alton 41
In a thrilling showdown in the semifinals round of the Big Springs Conference Tournament, the Ellington Lady Whippets emerged victorious over the Alton Lady Comets.
Led by Kaylee King, the Lady Whippets put on an offensive clinic, with King pouring in 28 points and Ella Morton stepped up big time with 13, proving to be the perfect complement to King's scoring prowess.
The Lady Whippets will play in the championship round of the BSC on Saturday at the Couch gymnasium.
Bunker 64, Van Buren 58
The Van Buren Lady Dawgs put up a valiant fight against the tough and formidable Bunker Lady Eagles in the semifinals round of the Big Springs Conference Tournament, but ultimately fell short to their opponents. The game was intense and thrilling, with both teams leaving it all on the court.
Kinsley Murphy, the Lady Dawgs' star player, led the way with a game-high 24 points, followed closely by Madison King with 12.
“The girls played really hard and did a lot of good things,” said Van Buren girls head
coach Torrie Ricker. “We had a lot of girls in foul trouble and had to change our tempo because of the foul trouble we were in. Also, one of our starters in coming back from an injury and that changed our rotations a little. But we are going to keep battling and doing our best.”
