The West won the Hieronymus Cup competition 23 1/2 to 16 1/2 on Sunday at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The Missouri Golf Association event paired 20 of the top players from each side of the state in match-play competition in three formats -- 4-ball, alternate shot and singles. Ten players on each team were younger than 50, and 10 players were older than 50.

Four local players competed for the East squad in the two-day event.

Brevin Giebler of Cape Girardeau won two points for in alternate shot and singles. Ben Cantrell of Cape won one point in alternate shot in the senior matches, while Brent Holmes of Cape won one point in his singles match. Ronnie Strong of Jackson also competed for the East.

The West outscored the East 13-7 in the senior division, including 4-1 in 4-ball.

The West held a 10 1/2-9 1/2 edge in the amateur category (under 50).
