Weekly spotlight - Alana Weissmueller

ALANA WEISSMUELLER

School: Notre Dame

Class: Senior

Sport: Softball

Accomplishment: Aside from her stellar defense, the Bulldogs' third baseman went 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate with five doubles and five runs batted in her first three games. She also added seven runs and three stolen bases.

Weissmueller: "I got off to a good start, and I'm confident that it's going to be a good year for both me and the team. We're probably going to start facing some tougher pitching pretty soon, but I'm going to try to do what I can at the plate and in the field to keep the team up."

Coach Jeff Graviett: "She's probably underappreciated defensively. She's putting up good numbers offensively, but defense is what stands out the most with her. She's like the Scott Rolen of Notre Dame softball."
