Notre Dame's boys and Jackson's girls encountered whiteouts in what were supposed to be season-opening basketball games Wednesday night in the Farmington Invitational Tournament.
All tournament games scheduled for Wednesday were canceled because of bad weather.
Notre Dame, weather permitting, will debut at 8 p.m. today against Farmington in a round-robin contest at the Farmington Civic Center. The game will be preceded by Jackson's girls against Farmington at 6:30 p.m.
Central's girls and Fort Zumwalt South will open the three-game session at 5 p.m. in a loser's bracket matchup. Top-seeded St. Joseph's Academy thumped Fort Zumwalt South 77-17 on Monday, while Poplar Bluff defeated Central 46-38 on Tuesday.
Tonight's revised schedule will bump the Central boys to 3 p.m. Friday. The Tigers, who lost 64-50 to Jackson in their season-opening game on Tuesday, were originally scheduled to meet Riverview Gardens in a consolation game at 7:30 p.m. today.
The girls' championship will be at 6 p.m. Saturday and the boys' championship at 7:30.
Woodland, Oran events set to continue today
The Woodland and Oran tournaments did not have games planned Wednesday. Both are scheduled to resume today with semifinals and a consolation contest.
At Oran, where all top four seeds remain in the hunt, top-seeded Twin Rivers meets (4) Kelly at 6:30 p.m. In a collision of rivals, defending Class 1 state champion (2) Bell City plays (3) Oran at 8 p.m. Richland and Gideon kick off the evening with a 5 p.m. consolation semifinal.
At Marble Hill, top-seeded Advance and (5) Bloomfield meet in a 6:30 p.m. semifinal, followed by (2) Woodland and (3) Leopold at 8 p.m. Delta and Zalma will play a consolation semifinal at 5 p.m.
PBtops at Sikeston
Poplar Bluff's boys team has been awarded the top seed in next week's 31st annual Sikeston Invitational Tournament.
Play for the eight-team field begins Monday and concludes Friday, Dec. 13.
Poplar Bluff opens with (8) Kennett at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Other first-round pairings Monday will be (4) Sikeston and (5) NMCCat 7 p.m. and (2) Charleston and (7) Doniphan at 8:30 p.m. Central is the sixth seed and plays (3) Blytheville (Ark.) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Delta is top Chaffee seed
The Chaffee Tournament will begin Monday with the Delta girls as its top seed.
Delta will open against (8) East Prairie at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Other first-round games will feature (2) Kelly against (7) Oran, (3) Scott City against (6) Chaffee and (4) Sikeston against (5) Scott County Central. The championship will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
