MARTIN, Tenn. -- After a five-game losing streak was snapped Saturday at Murray State, Southeast Missouri State University women's basketball coach Ed Arnzen said the third game in the Otahkians' current Ohio Valley Conference road trip was "a winnable game for us."
Little did Arnzen know his team would be outrebounded 48-28 by Tennessee-Martin.
Five Skyhawks scored in double figures as UT-Martin won its school-record fifth straight OVC game 80-58 on Monday at Skyhawk Arena.
UT-Martin improved to 9-7 and 6-2 in the OVC, dropping Southeast to 5-11 and 3-6.
"I thought (the Skyhawks) just went harder to the glass," said Arnzen. "We weren't ready to play."
While Southeast made just two field goals in the game's first seven minutes, UT-Martin scored on nine of its first 10 possessions and opened a 20-5 bulge with 13 minutes 18 seconds remaining in the first half. Southeast trailed 40-25 at halftime.
"We couldn't stop them down low," Arnzen said.
The Skyhawks' Nichole Lockridge scored 10 of her 11 points in the first seven minutes of the game. Zabrina Harris came off the bench and had a game-high 13 points and seven rebounds.
Tessa Fields had 10 points and 11 assists, Jody Miller finished with 12 points and six rebounds and Chastity Bohannan totaled 11 points and nine rebounds.
For Southeast, Jamie Koester scored 15 points and Rusty Sowers added 11.
The Otahkians will play host to Eastern Illinois at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
