UF coach hits mark vs. Mizzou

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Scottie Wilbekin had 13 points and 10 assists, his first career double-double, and No. 10 Florida thumped No. 17 Missouri 83-52 on Saturday.

The victory was coach Billy Donovan's 400th with the Gators, making him the third coach in Southeastern Conference history to accomplish that feat with the same school. He joined Kentucky's Adolph Rupp and LSU's Dale Brown in the 400-win club.

Florida, which won its sixth consecutive game, also made a statement about being the class of the Southeastern Conference.

And the Gators aren't even fully healthy.

Erik Murphy scored 15 points despite playing with a broken finger, and Kenny Boynton added 14.

Murphy made 6 of 11 shots from the field, including three from 3-point range. Boynton did most of his damage in transition, helping turn Missouri's 21 turnovers into 34 points.

Will Yeguete (knee tendinitis) and Mike Rosario (sprained ankle) also came up big for the Gators (14-2, 4-0 SEC), who won at Texas A&M about 40 hours earlier. Yeguete had 13 points and Rosario chipped in nine.

Maybe the most impressive aspect of Florida's latest lopsided victory was Wilbekin's defense. The junior guard handled Missouri's Phil Pressey.

Pressey finished with two points on 1-of-7 shooting. He had 10 turnovers and six assists.

Jabari Brown led the Tigers (13-4, 2-2) with 16 points and Keion Bell added 14.

Missouri played without senior forward Laurence Bowers for the third consecutive game. Regardless, few could have seen such a beatdown coming in Gainesville.

Then again, Florida has won all four of its conference games by at least 21 points.

The Gators jumped all over Missouri from the opening tip, scoring the first nine points and pulling out to a 15-2 lead.

Florida made 13 of its first 18 shots. Things really started getting out of hand for the Tigers when Boyton got going midway through the first half. He hit a 3 and then made two layups -- both off turnovers by Pressey caused by Wilbekin -- and put the Gators ahead 29-12.

Florida made it a 20-point game early in the second half and then turned it into a laugher with dunk after dunk. Murphy, Young and Yeguete all had slams, giving the sellout crowd at the O'Connell Center everything it wanted from the home team.

The Gators were up 78-47 when Donovan turned things over to the bench.
