Central seniors Brandon Cooper and Scott Brueckner were selected to participate in the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4 Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for Saturday at T.R. Hughes Stadium in St. Charles.
Cooper led the Tigers with a .431 batting average to go along with 24 RBIs.
Brueckner hit .394 with 20 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
The game, the last of four on the day, is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Central had six Class 4 District 1 all-district players and Jackson landed five.
The Tigers, despite losing in the opening round to Poplar Bluff, led the district in the number of players recognized, as Brad LaBruyere, Brandon Cooper, Scott Brueckner, Ty Craft, Zac Hudson and Matt Hester each earned honors.
Jackson, the district champion, was represented by Jason Meystedt, Tyler Beussink, Derrick Biri, Brandon Gendron and Rex Meyr.
Brooke Brown, Theresa Mattingly and Sara Moll highlighted a group of St. Vincent soccer players who earned various postseason honors recently.
Brown, Mattingly and Moll earned first-team all-district and all-Jefferson County Conference honors. Mattingly and Moll also earned first-team all-region honors as well. Brown and Jessica Welker earned second-team all-region honors.
Welker, Stacy Brown and Michelle Herzog each earned second-team all-district honors and were honorable mention all-conference. Lacey Siegmund was named honorable mention all-conference, and Kelsey Cissell made honorable mention all-district for the Squaws.
St. Vincent junior Waylon Richardet made first-team all-Jefferson County Conference after hitting .431 with 26 RBIs for the Indians' baseball team.
Joey Guilliams, Brian Buchheit and Justin Ruessler all made the second team for the Indians. Guilliams made the team as an infielder after scoring 29 runs. Buchheit was the second-team catcher with a .329 batting average and 17 RBIs. Ruessler was a second-team pitcher with a 2.06 ERA in 40 2/3 innings.
Jackson native Merideth Snow, who won two individual events last year at the state meet for Eureka, topped herself in the Class 4 meet this year.
The junior captured the three distance events --winning the 3,200 meters on May 27 by 19 seconds in 10 minutes, 40.48 seconds and then capturing the 800 (2:15.50)and the 1,600 (4:57.99)on May 28.
Eureka finished fifth as a team with Snow responsible for 30 of 35 points. She had won the girls cross country title in the fall.
Kelly senior Whitney Beggs has signed with Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff to play softball.
Beggs, an all-state selection, helped lead the Hawks to the Class 2 state title in the fall. In the championship game against Bishop LeBlond, Beggs was one out away from throwing a perfect game in a 1-0 victory. Beggs concluded her one-hitter with eight strikeouts. She also collected the game-winning RBI.
For the season, Beggs was 13-3 with a 0.61 ERA. Beggs struck out more than 150 batters. Offensively, Beggs hit .344. Beggs will be joined on the Three Rivers squad by Kelly teammate Jessica Burnett, who was one of Kelly's top hitters this past season.
Notre Dame senior Alana Weissmueller has signed to play softball for Maryville Univrsity.
Weissmueller earned all-state honors her junior season and was a three-year starter at third base for the Bulldogs. During her senior season, Weissmueller helped the Bulldogs make it to the state final four by hitting better than .300. Notre Dame finished third in Class 3.
Jackson senior Ryan Mirly has signed to play basketball for Rend Lake College.
Mirly, a 6-foot-8 center, earned second-team all-SEMO Conference honors this past season. Starting in the post for the Indians, Mirly averaged double figures in scoring and led the team in rebounding.
Scott City senior Mark Dannenmueller is also part of Rend Lake's recent recruiting class.
Leopold High School picked up some more recognition in the MSHSAA Journal for May and June, which included the latest list of Scholastic Achievement Awards.
The only local school on the list was Leopold, which had three teams honored for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, which is extended to teams with GPAs of 3.25 to 4.0. The girls varsity cheerleading squad posted a 3.85, the boys junior varsity basketball team had a 3.76, and the boys varsity basketball team had a 3.42.
