DELTA, Mo. -- Top-seeded Twin Rivers captured the Delta Tournament Saturday night, defeating the host Lady Bobcats 49-45 in the championship game.
Delta, the third seed, carried a 35-34 lead into the fourth quarter but saw Twin Rivers move ahead on the free-throw shooting of guard Amanda Lance, who finished with 22 points. Lance sank 9 of 11 free throws in the final period, including a pair of free throws with about two minutes left that put the Lady Royals ahead for good.
Delta (7-4) also shot well from the line in the second half, sinking 8 of 9 attempts.
"We had a good tournament," said Delta coach Randall White. "We beat Dexter and they had a good ballclub. We're making improvements. We have a lot to work on, but I saw a lot of positive things in our tournament."
Rebecca Below led Delta with a game-high 26 points.
Dexter defeated St. Vincent 56-38 in the third-place game behind 20 points from Katie Dunlap. Chelsey Brown led the Squaws with 10 points.
Oran won the consolation contest 46-27 over Chaffee. Maria Eftink paced Oran with 12 points and Courtney Fowler added 10.
BOYS BASKETBALL
OAK RIDGE 66, ELLINGTON 63
PARK HILLS, Mo. -- After battling to a 47-47 tie in regulation, Oak Ridge needed three overtimes to defeat Ellington at Mineral Area College.
Jeff Cowan scored 20 points to pace Oak Ridge (4-7) while Adam Hahs tallied 15 and Clayton Ruesler finished with 10. Ben Fadler netted nine points but hit a 12-footer at the buzzer to force the third and final overtime.
EAST CARTER 94, SCOTT CITY 81
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- The Rams (5-7) finished second in a run-and-gun affair with hot-shooting East Carter County 94-81.
"We got caught up in their tempo," said Scott City coach Kerry Thompson.
Scott City came back from a 50-36 halftime deficit to pull within seven, entering the fourth quarter. East Carter hit seven 3-pointers in the first half.
But it was East Carter's stellar free-throw shooting down the stretch that clinched the win. They hit 11 of 13 in the final period, 25 of 33 overall.
Craig Jungers led the Rams with 24 points, while D.J. Walton and Tyler Schlosser tallied 16 and 15, respectively.
JV WRESTLING
JACKSON TOURNAMENT
JACKSON, Mo. --Jackson's junior varsity wrestling team took 10 first places and three seconds in a five-team meet Saturday.
" They wrestled really well," Jackson coach Steve Wachter said. "We had a really good effort by our young wrestlers."
Taking firsts for Jackson were Michael Sladek (125), Jordan Barnhart (130), Jeremy Loenneke (135), Shawn Hinkebein (140), Greg Ludwig (145), Garrett Huck (152), John Mosby (160), Jeremy Rollet (171), Andy Glass (189) and Dustin Fluegge (215).
Michael Johnson and Nick Voshage (both at 140), Shane Voshage (145) and Matt Jackson (152) all took second.
Though no team scores were kept, Fox had the second most placers behind Jackson with two firsts and five seconds.
FRESHMAN BASKETBALL
CAPE CENTRAL 55, POPLAR BLUFF 46
Lorenzo Braxton's 19 points spurred Cape Central to a win over Poplar Bluff, as the Tigers improved to 8-1.
Cape Central's eighth grade team (6-4) dropped a 55-24 decision to the Mules.
