Southeast Missourian

Swimmers from the Gator Swim Team made up the foursomes for three winning relay teams and a runner-up team this past weekendin the 15- to 18-year-old boys division at the AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans.

Steffan Troxel was a member of all four relay teams and also won six individual events with meet records in three of those events.

Hannah Kinder of the Gators won four events for 15-18 girls, sweeping the freestyle races.

Troxel teamed with Hunter Givens, David Welker and Caleb Statler to win the 400 medley relay. Troxel, Welker, Givens and Kris Metje won both the 400 free and 200 free relay. They finished second in the 200 medley.

Troxel had three of the meet's six record-setting performances. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.08, the 1,500 free in 16:25.08 and the 400 free in 4:09.20.

Welker finished second to Troxel in three events and also won the 200 backstroke.

Kinder won the freestyle at the 50, 100, 200 and 400 distances.

The Gators, along with swimmers from Perryville, Jackson and other parts of Missouri, made up the Ozark team that finished second overall with 3,111 points. Southern won with 3,665.5 and Florida was a distant third with 1,729.
