The third-seeded Notre Dame boys basketball team got defensive in the third quarter and cruised past No. 14 Chaffee 62-26 in the first round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament on Saturday at the Show Me Center.
The Red Devils trailed by 21 at halftime and were held to only two points in the third quarter.
Blake Bauwens led Notre Dame (4-4) with 11 points, nine of which he scored from 3-point range. Dawson Dohogne added 10 points for the Bulldogs, who will face sixth-seeded Scott County Central in a quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Chaffee (1-7) was paced by Jordan Wilburn, who finished with eight points. The Red Devils will take on No. 11 Meadow Heights in a consolation quarterfinal at noon Monday.

Demarcus Sharp scored a game-high 17 points to lead the fourth-seeded Bluejays in a first-round victory over the 13th-seeded Blue Jays.
Tenerrious Ewing added 15 points for Charleston (4-4) while Jaquavis Rodgers and Jeremy Tucker each had 12 points. The Bluejays will face fifth-seeded Advance in a semifinal at 9 p.m. Monday.
Nathan Bolin had 10 points to pace Oak Ridge (2-6), which will take on No. 12 Bell City in a consolation semifinal at 9 a.m. Monday.

The top-seeded Indians jumped out to a 33-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, knocking off the 16th-seeded Bobcats in the tournament opener.
Jackson (4-5) had 14 players score in the contest, led by a game-high 19 points from Jacob Smith. Cameron Hester added 16 points for the Indians, who will take on eighth-seeded Woodland in a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Quentin Little had 10 points to pace Delta (0-8), which will face ninth-seeded Oran in a consolation quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The second-seeded Tigers raced out to a 54-12 lead at halftime and were never threatened in their first-round win over the No. 15 Wildcats.
Al Young scored a game-high 22 points to lead Cape Central (4-5). Zyshon Mallory chipped in 19 points for the Tigers while Kaleb Ward finished with 11 points. Central will take on seventh-seeded Scott City in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Monday.
Tristen Graham had nine points to lead Leopold (0-8), which will face 10th-seeded Kelly in a consolation quarterfinal at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
