EAST PRAIRIE (0-2) at SCOTT CITY (0-2)

Last week: Portageville 58, Scott City 0 (Portageville ended an 11-game losing streak); Corning, Ark. 18, East Prairie 13 (Corning ended a 13-game losing streak with a late score).

Last year: Scott City 7, East Prairie 6

Comments: "They were embarrassed and I was too," Scott City coach Stephen O'Brien said of last week's loss. "After about the second quarter, we were down three touchdowns, but it was still reasonable. But a couple of our upper classmen laid down and quit. A couple of them didn't even come out of their stance when the ball was snapped. We've had some good practices this week and we're trying to stay positive. It will be a gut check for our guys to see if they can step up and perform. Getting beat is one thing, but if you lay down that's something else."

PIGGOTT, Ark. (2-0) at CHAFFEE (1-1)

Last week: Fredericktown 36, Chaffee 23 (Jeremy Hahn ran for 147 yards on 25 carries for Chaffee); Piggott 31, Earle, Ark. 20 (Piggott's Jonathan Bricker ran for 109 yards on 28 carries).

Last year: Piggott 49, Chaffee 0

Comments: "They're pretty salty," said Chaffee coach Allan Horrell. "No. 1, they've always big kids year in year out. What they do, they do well. They run double tight, full house and dare you to stop them if you can. Basically, last week we had success late in the game. Hopefully can get things going this week before we run out of time."

ST. VINCENT (1-1) at LUTHERAN SOUTH (0-2) (Saturday, 1 p.m.)

Last week: St. Vincent 31, Brentwood 8 (St. Vincent's Adam Bockman rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries); Clayton 41, Lutheran South 7 (Bob DeJesus ran for 108 yards on 13 carries for the Lancers.)

Comments: "They're big and physical up front," St. Vincent coach Steve Winkler said. "DeJesus is a pretty tough little back. They run lot double tight and double wing, and pull the guards in front of him. They go 220 to 230 pounds up front, compared to our 160 pound guys on the line. We'll have to be able to outrun people. But our front line dominated Brentwood a lot of the game. We had 306 yards rushing, so you've got to be happy."

CARUTHERSVILLE (0-2) at CHARLESTON (1-1)

Last week: Sikeston 36, Charleston 15 (Charleston's Jordy Mixon ran for 170 yards on 16 carries. The Bluejays fumbled six times, losing five); Kennett 47, Caruthersville 18.

Last year: Caruthersville 20, Charleston 16

Comments: "I still can't believe how bad we played last week," Charleston coach Brent Anderson said. "I don't think we played even close to our potential. ... They've got good team speed, similar to what we have. They're quick up front and defensively they fly around the football. Hopefully, we can stay away from turnovers. If we do that, I look for it to be a good ballgame for us."

FREDERICKTOWN (1-1) at FESTUS (0-2) (7 p.m.)

Last week: Fredericktown 36, Chaffee 23 (Fredericktown's Brad Chambers ran for 116 yards on eight carries, including TD runs of 50 and 43 yards); Affton 26, Festus 21 (Festus scored all of its points in the third quarter. Affton had touchdown runs or returns of 81, 65, 91 and 40 yards.)

Last year: Festus 41, Fredericktown 8

SIKESTON (1-1) at DEXTER (1-1)

Last week: Sikeston 36, Charleston 15 (Sikeston's Lavar Morgan rushed for 60 yards on seven carries); Dexter 55, Jonesboro Westside 7 (Dexter's Willy Dooley caught six passes for 103 yards)

Last year: Sikeston 17, Dexter 0
