Jackson (1-1) at Gateway Tech (1-1)

Last week: Jackson 38, Parkway South 14; Helias 37, Gateway Tech 13.

Last year: These two teams did not meet in 2007.

Outlook: Jackson coach Van Hitt was pleased with the way his team played last Friday against Parkway South. Hitt said for his defense to be successful against Gateway Tech, it must keep a close eye on 6-4, 285-pound tight end Sheldon Richardson, who may attend Missouri. So far this year, Richardson has eight catches for 110 yards. The Indians' defense also must stop running back Anthony Pierson, who had carried the ball 19 times for 446 yards. Hitt readjusted his secondary for last week's game and said he thought the unit played well with two interceptions and one pass knocked down. Hitt said the secondary will remain the same. Kevin Pridemore will miss his second straight game due to a private matter. Jackson tailback Adam Zweigart enters leading all local tailbacks with 72 carries for 439 yards.

Scott City (2-0) at East Prairie (1-1)

Last week: Scott City 26, Portageville 0; East Prairie 49, Grandview 6.

Last year's meeting: Scott City 37, East Prairie 7.

Outlook: Scott City coach Ronnie Jones said his team must make fewer early mistakes. He said the Rams have made numerous mistakes early against Portageville last week, with drives stalling or ending due to penalties, fumbles and interceptions. East Prairie runs out of a double wing and a shotgun formation. The Eagles try to get the ball into the hands of M.C. Williams as much as possible, who can break a game open. Williams has rushed the ball 47 times for 387 yards. Jones said his team must know exactly where Williams is every time the ball is snapped. The Eagles use Williams on screen passes, sweeps and inside. Scott City is led in rushing by Jake Campbell, who has 32 carries for 187 yards. Caleb Gray has carried 34 times for 158 yards.

Chaffee (1-1) at Crystal City (0-2)

Last week: Fulton County Ky. 34, Chaffee 28, 3OT; Crystal City 42, Sullivan 0.

Last year's meeting: Crystal City 35, Chaffee 0.

Outlook: Crystal City posted a 10-2 record in 2007. Its only loses came to Maplewood — once in the regular season and once in the state playoffs. But the Hornets have been outscored 70-7 in two losses this season. They lost many of their 2007 starters, including tailback Demetrius Terry, who rushed for 2,005 yards and another 1,000-yard running back. Chaffee coach Charlie Vickery said both squads lack experience. Vickery said the Hornets still have quality players. Crystal City runs out of the I-formation but also will spread out. The Red Devils have fumbled six times and have had one punt blocked. Chaffee's Alex Horton, who started at center while also playing some linebacker last year, will see his first action after being out since the summer with a knee injury.

Blytheville, Ark. (1-0) at Central (0-2)

Last week: Blytheville 28, Osceola 13; New Madrid County 44, Central 35.

Last year's meeting: Blytheville 45, Central 6.

Outlook: Centralcoach Rich Payne said Blytheville has some strong skill players but is young on both the offensive and defensive lines. Payne said the Tigers must continue to improve on stopping the big play. The Tigers have made some adjustments to the kickoff team. which allowed two touchdowns in the first half to New Madird. John Ritter and Zach Horrell will both be unavailable this week. Horrell has a knee problem and Ritter has a high-ankle injury. Dante Sales will start at fullback in place of Ritter. Keilon Moore will start at linebacker, replacing Ritter. Zach Boerboom will start at defensive end in place of Horrell. Tigers tailback Cantrell Andrews enters at the fourth leading rusher in the area with 42 carries for 318 yards.

St. Vincent (1-1) at Valle Catholic (1-1)

Last week: Park Hills 13, St. Vincent 12; Valle Catholic 28, Ste. Genevieve 25.

Last year's meeting: St. Vincent 14, Valle Catholic 7.

Outlook: St. Vincent plays against its rival Valle Catholic, which posted an impressive win last week by knocking off state-ranked Ste. Genevieve (Class 3) by three points. St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler said Valle Catholic (Class 1) is athletic all over the field, makes few mistakes and is opportunistic. Winkler said Valle demonstrated tenacity and pursuit of the football in its upset of Ste. Genevieve.

Ste. Genevieve (1-1) at Perryville (1-1)

Last week: Valle Catholic 28, Ste. Genevieve 25; Perryville 38, DeSoto 14.

Last year's meeting: Perryville 21, Ste. Genevieve 14.

Outlook: Perryville surrendered 310 rushing yards last week. Perryville coach Jim May said his team missed some tackles that allowed DeSoto to pick up additional yardage. May said his team hurt itself with mistakes. May said he expects Ste. Genevieve's 6-foot-3, 202-pound quarterback Kory Faulkner to play despite injuring a rib last week. May said Faulkner spreads the ball out to his receivers and the Pirates must stay alert and tackle well. Perryville quarterback Josh Perreault enters with 18 carries for 150 yards, while running back Brent Roth has carried 29 times for 147 yards.
