With weather outside more suitable for ice skating, Cape Central and Notre Dame found an oasis to hold their first ever dual swim meet between the two schools.
Cape Central's boys emerged from the heated waters of the Central pool with a 108-77 victory over Notre Dame, which competed in the first dual meet of its first-year program.
The Tigers were victorious in nine of the 12 events, including all three relays.
While there was plenty of water to be found, none could dampen the spirit of Notre Dame coach Pat Kuper, who saw nothing but positives in the meet.
"We were very excited because we had some good placements and the boys were cutting times," said Kuper. "We felt like we were in reach half meet. I was pleased with the effort the boys made."
Kurt Glastetter accounted for two of Notre Dame's three victories, winning the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Josh Lester led a 1-2 finish by the Bulldogs in the 200 freestyle.
Cape Central featured six different winners in the individual events: Andrew Moreton (200 IM), Sam Maguire (50 freestyle), Andy Yoffie (diving), Stratton Tingle (100 butterfly), Jonathan Lowrance (500 freestyle) and John Higgins (100 breaststroke).
Kuper said Cape Central, an established program, serves as a role model for her swimmers.
"They have more experience and are a little older," said Kuper.
She said a spirit of sportsmanship transcended the meet, with Cape Central swimmers often shaking the hands of Notre Dame swimmers and voicing encouragement.
"It really was a fun meet," said Kuper. "The boys all know each other. There was good camaraderie on the deck. It was a positive experience all the way around."
