CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Despite trailing Carbondale for most of the game Tuesday night, the Cape Central Tigers won 62-61 on a last-second four-point play by Travis Williamson. CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Despite trailing Carbondale for most of the game Tuesday night, the Cape Central Tigers won 62-61 on a last-second four-point play by Travis Williamson.

The Tigers battled back from 11 points down in the second half to improve their record to 6-4. Central trailed 61-58 with 10 seconds left before Williamson's heroics.

With 1.7 seconds left, Williamson drained a 3-pointer to tie the score while being fouled on the play. After a Carbondale timeout, he hit the free throw to give the Tigers the win.

"He's a good player and good players make good plays," said Central coach Brett Reutzel. "It's something most young men dream about and he did it."

Williamson had a big fourth quarter, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the final eight minutes. Teammate Aron Meystedt led the Tigers with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Ross Conner added 14 points.

In the JV game, Carbondale won 55-44. Donnie McClinton scored 12 points and Eric Wessel 11 for Central. The Tigers play at Kennett on Friday.

Notre Dame 44, St. Vincent 35

PERRYVILLE -- Notre Dame emerged victorious in a defensive battle that held both teams to just one double-figure scorer.

Zach Miller netted 11 points for Notre Dame, which improved to 4-5.

"It's a difficult place to play well and win," said Notre Dame coach Chris Janet. "We played extremely hard and played great defense. We missed a lot of easy baskets but the key is we hung in there and won the basketball game."

Notre Dame led just 8-5 after one quarter and 20-14 at intermission. The Bulldogs took a 28-23 lead into the final eight minutes.

Dustin Moll scored 10 points to lead St. Vincent (1-10).

Kelly will visit Notre Dame on Friday. St. Vincent goes to Fredericktown on Thursday.

Jackson 50, Hillsboro 47

HILLSOBORO -- In a fitting finish to a defensive ballgame, Jackson turned a steal into the winning basket with 20 second remaining in regulation.

With the game tied 47-47 and Hillsboro working for a final shot, Jackson's Doug Cary knocked the ball away from a Hawk ballhandler and teammate Brandon Blattel dove to knock the loose ball ahead to Cory Daniels, who scored the winning basket while being fouled. He added the free throw for a 50-47 Jackson lead. Blattel then stole the ball on the Hillsboro inbound to seal the victory.

Cary led Jackson (9-3) with 13 points. Jeff Walter notched 12 points and Justin Keen added 10.

Ryan Good scored 12 points for Hillsboro (7-6).

The score was tied 11-11 after one quarter and Jackson nudged ahead 27-22 by halftime. The Indians took a 35-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jackson visits Poplar Bluff on Friday.

Kelly 84, Sikeston 64

SIKESTON -- Kelly continued its balanced scoring Tuesday and improved to 11-1 with a 20-point road-conquest of Sikeston.

Jason Glastetter led five Hawks in double-figure scoring with 17 points. Following Glastetter's scoring pace were teammates Jim Hulshof 15, Denver Stuckey 14, Ben Kipfel 12 and Russ Mothershead 10. Nathan Dirnberger added eight points.

"I'm really proud of our guys playing together and not caring who's putting it in the basket," said Kelly coach Kent Mangels. "Our balance makes it so much tougher on our opponents."

Kelly led 37-25 at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 27-16 in the third quarter to put the game away.

The Hawks travel to Notre Dame on Friday.

Perryville 55, Grandview 31

PERRYVILLE -- Behind 23 points by 6-6 senior Paul Weinkein and 16 from Michael Downen, Perryville opened Jefferson County Conference play with an easy win over visiting Grandview on Tuesday.

The Pirates (5-6) took a 14-4 first-quarter lead and led 27-10 at halftime.

Scott City 93, Scott Co. Central 81

SCOTT CITY -- Scott City jumped out to a 13-0 lead and improved to 11-1.

Scott City's Tim Lowery scored a game-high 30 points and delivered six assists. Blaine Bruce and Jon Beck each added 14 points and Ryan Weatherspoon finished with 10.

For Central, sophomore Jreece Johnson had a team-high 26 points, freshman Todd Blissett added 22 and John Fort had 21.

Charleston 95, Dexter 46

CHARLESTON -- The Blue Jays improved to 11-1, rolling past Dexter on Tuesday.

Larico Coleman scored a game-high 23 points to lead Charleston. Anthony Carlisle scored 11 and Howard Biles 10 for the Blue Jays.

Charleston led only 20-15 after one quarter, but pushed that lead to 45-20 by halftime. Heading to the fourth quarter, Charleston led 75-34.

Dexter won the junior varsity game 61-60 in three overtimes.

The Blue Jays go to Sikeston for a conference game Friday.

Puxico 103, Chaffee 76

CHAFFEE -- Puxico lit up the Chaffee scoreboard for 103 points, dropping the Red Devils to 0-9.

"We played well for half of the game again," said Chaffee coach Jim Stoverink. "We just haven't put together 32 minutes."

Ryan Harmon unloaded 30 points for Puxico. Chaffee got 18 points from Jeremy Vandeven and Josh Hanlon scored 17, including five 3-pointers.

Chaffee host Scott City on Friday.

Bell City 94, Zalma 58

BELL CITY -- Jacob Jenkins netted 27 points to lead six Cubs in double figures as Bell City routed visiting Zalma.

Also in double figures for Bell City: Justin Stephens 14, Brandon Stewart 13, Jarrod Eftink 11, Glenn Adams 11, and Matt Knoderer 10.

Josh Boland paced Zalma with 12 points, while Josh Smith scored 11 and Gandy Wade tallied 10.

Bell City (7-5) led 19-6 after the first quarter and took a commanding 48-26 lead into intermission.

Marquand 73, Meadow Heights 57

PATTON -- A 19-4 third-quarter advantage propelled Marquand (7-6) to a win on the road Tuesday night.

Meadow Heights held a 19-18 first-quarter lead and trailed 37-33 at halftime.

Marquand's Dusty Stephens scored a game-high 23 points, Travis Braswell had 11 and Eric Hovis and Brandon Settle each added 10. For Meadow Heights (2-8), Kevin Weaver had a team-high 20 points and Michael Jeter added 13.

Delta 72, Leopold 52

LEOPOLD -- Delta's Greg Voelker scored 19 points and Aaron Altenthal 11 as the Bobcats handled Leopold on the road Tuesday night.

Delta led by just eight points, 49-41, entering the fourth quarter. The Bobcats then outscored Leopold 23-11.

Jason Vandeven scored 13 points for the Wildcats (0-9). Brian Holzum had 12 and Adam Horrell 10.

Advance 66, Oak Ridge 49

OAK RIDGE -- Gary Ahern burned the nets for 29 points as the Hornets jumped on Oak Ridge early.

Advance jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter and led 31-24 at halftime. The Hornets held a 35-25 scoring advantage in the second half.

The Hornets also received 14 points from Seth Cantrell and 11 apiece from Shannon Bennett and Tyler Hitt.

Brent Schreiner scored 17 for Oak Ridge (1-9) and teammate Matt Preusser added 11.

Advance held a 24-5 scoring edge from the free-throw line.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cape Central 62, Farmington 50

Four players scored in double figures Tuesday night for Cape Central as the Lady Tigers improved to 7-3.

Kim Aslinger and Amy Harris poured in 13 points and Bonquita Webb and Katie Doughtery added 12 for Central. Farmington got a game-high 22 points from Erin Webb.

Central outscored Farmington 20-12 in the first quarter and never trailed after that. The Lady Tigers hosts state-ranked Poplar Bluff Thursday.

Jackson 67, Poplar Bluff 54

POPLAR BLUFF -- Christa Millham poured in a career-high 30 points Monday night to lead the Jackson Lady Indians past previously undefeated Poplar Bluff in a SEMO Conference contest.

Teammate Cherish Tillman added 17 points as Jackson improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. Bluff got 13 points from Holly Teague as the Lady Mules fell to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Jackson led 28-27 at halftime and outscored the Lady Mules 22-9 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

The Lady Indians are back in action Thursday at Charleston. Saturday's home contest against St. Joseph's Academy will feature the varsity game at 2 p.m., with the JV game to follow.

Farmington 79, Cape Central 0

FARMINGTON -- The Cape Central wrestling team had a rough time with Farmington, getting shutout Tuesday.

Central heavyweight Craig Knoth was the only Tiger to go the distance in his match, losing 8-7.

The Tigers will try to rebound Thursday at Sikeston.

ST. LOUIS -- Although Cape Central was edged on the road by Ft. Zumwalt South on Tuesday, two Tigers recorded new state meet qualifying times.

In 1-meter diving, Nick Sterrett qualified with a score of 216.60. And in the 500-yard freestyle, Ben Roeger made the cut with a 5:17.52.

Central will swin against St. Louis University High and Vianney in St. Louis on Friday.
