SOUTH HAVEN, Miss. -- Cape Central's baseball team advanced to the semifinal game of the DeSoto Times Classic Tournament for the first time in three years with a 4-3 win over South Panola (Miss.) Friday.

Cape Central (6-3) managed just four hits, but it was enough to squeak by as Justin Welker and Justin Cook combined for a gem.

Welker started and went two innings before Cook took over and picked up the win. Cook gave up seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

Josh McIntosh provided an RBI double for the Tigers and John Snider also had an RBI hit.

Cape Central scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when, with two outs and the count 2-2, Mark Fisher scored on a wild pitch.

"We're playing a lot of close game that's for sure, but we're finding a way to win and that's a good sign," said Cape Central coach Steve Williams. "The pitching is decent down here, but we're getting one more than our opponent and that's what counts."

NEW MADRID -- The Eagles took their only lead of the game on a bases-loaded wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh as they defeated Jackson in a wild game.

"We had a lead and kind of sat on it and then we couldn't get them out," said Jackson coach Sam Sides.

Jason Brown came on to pitch the seventh for Jackson and was tagged with the loss. Brown followed starter Lance Limbaugh, Lucas McCulley and Toby Freeman.

Tory Meyer went 3-for-3 for Jackson, which had 10 hits. Freeman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Limbaugh added a pair of hits.

Owen won the 500 in a time of 5 minutes, 7.90 seconds. She also won the 200 freestyle and was a member of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team. Jean Maguire also turned in a pair of firsts in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Sara Sprigg also led a 1-2 finish in diving.
