For the young girls with dreams of playing collegiate basketball, Three Rivers College has provided a stage where an athlete can learn the fundamentals and develop their skills.

The Three Rivers Lady Raiders basketball team will host their inaugural all-girls basketball camp on July 5th at Libla Family Sports Complex.

Head women’s basketball coach Alex Wiggs said this is his first time hosting a all-girls at Three Rivers and is looking forward to seeing the next potential talent walk through those doors.

“We're excited to provide a stage for the younger athletes,” Wiggs said. “I think this is the first time in seven years that there’s been an all-girls camp in this area. This is a great opportunity to allow the young kids in the community to see the facilities and let them meet some of our girls who will be working with them at the camp as well.”

The Lady Raider’s basketball camp is for young girls K-8th grade, and so far, the camp has over 40 kids who have pre-registered for the event. Coach Wiggs said the campers can expect to work hard while learning the game but guarantees a fun time.

“The campers will learn a lot about skill development and the fundamentals of basketball,” Wiggs said. “Depending on the number of older girls that we have, our goal is to get them some one-on-one time to sharpen their skills. We’re going to teach them how to compete and learn how to play, being instructed by coaches.

“The big thing is teaching them stuff that they can work on their own time, such as ball handling, which is a very important skill to have in this game. We are super excited, and we look forward to helping them become better players, and we may have a future Lady Raider in the bunch.”

The camp is $30, and to register, visit http://www.raidersathletics.com. If you have any questions, contact Coach Wiggs or Coach Livingston.
