Matt Seyer, Garrett Roslen and Trevor Irwin helped the Oran baseball team reach the Clsas 1 state championship game this spring. This week, they were honored with all-state recognition.
Seyer was named to the first team as an infielder, and Roslen was chosen to the first team in the outfield. Irwin was named as a second-team infielder.
Notre Dame also had two players recognized for all-state honors, on the Class 3 team.
Lee Essner was named to the first team as a designated hitter/utility player, and Matt Wulfers was named to the second team as an outfielder.
Seyer, a shortstop, batted .474 as Oran's leadoff hitter, with 52 runs scored and 28 driven in. He finished 9-3 as a pitcher with a 1.47 earned run average.
Roslen hit .398 for the Eagles with 38 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
Irwin, who played third base, hit .458 with 32 runs batted in and 42 runs scored.
Essner, the Southeast Missourian player of the year, posted a 10-1 pitching record with the loss coming in the Class 3 district finale against Sikeston. He finished with a 2.11 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 63 innings. The Notre Dame shortstop also hit .430 with 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
Wulfers hit .479 with a slugging average over .750, setting a school record with five triples and finishing just one short of the school record for doubles with 10. He drove in 17 runs and scored 26.
