Southeast Missouri State men's basketball player Derek Thompson has been honored by the Ohio Valley Conference for the second time this season.
Thompson on Monday earned his second OVC freshman of the week award.
A 6-foot-3 guard from Detroit, Mich., Thompson averaged 12.5 points per game in two OVC contests last week. That includes an 18-point performance during Thursday's 76-71 overtime loss at perennial OVC power Austin Peay.
Thompson hit 6 of 13 field-goal attempts against Austin Peay, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Two of his 3-pointers came on consecutive possessions in the final minute of regulation that helped force overtime.
Thompson then added seven points during Saturday's 74-66 win at Tennessee State as Southeast ended the program's OVC-record 26-game conference losing streak.
Thompson, who comes off the bench, is Southeast's second-leading scorer with an average of 9.6 points per game.
The Redhawks, 3-6 overall and 1-1 in OVC play, return to action Wednesday night with a nonconference home game against Southern Illinois-Carbondale (3-2).
