Last race: Matt Kenseth picked up his third victory of the season and fourth of his career by winning the Michigan 400. Kenseth battled rookies Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman for most of the race before holding off Dale Jarrett on the last lap.

Last year: Tony Stewart spoiled Robby Gordon's bid for a victory and Jeff Gordon's push for a record. Jeff Gordon was vying for his record-setting seventh road-course victory as well as his fourth straight win at Sears Point.

Fast facts: Seven of the 13 races in Sonoma have been won by three drivers -- Jeff Gordon, Ernie Irvan and Rusty Wallace. Gordon has three wins, and Irvan and Wallace two apiece. ... Three of the last five winners have started on the pole. Gordon has won the pole in three of the last four races. ... Kenseth recorded his sixth top-five and ninth top-10 finish last week. He is fifth in the standings, 190 points behind leader Sterling Marlin. ... Gordon is tied with Johnson for second in the standings, trailing Marlin by 110 points. But Gordon has yet to win a race this season and has a winless streak of 23 races. ... Kenseth's victory last week was the fifth of the season for Roush Racing. ... Sears Point Raceway is famous for "The Chute," an 890-foot stretch developed in 1998 that connects Turns 4 and 7.

Memphis 200

Site: Millington, Tenn.

Schedule: Friday, qualifying, 3 p.m.; Saturday, race (ESPN, noon).

Track: Memphis Motorsports Park, (tri-oval, 0.75 miles, 11-degrees banking in turns).

Race distance: 150 miles, 200 laps.

Last race: Brendan Gaughan record his first NASCAR truck victory by taking the O'Reilly 400 at Texas Motor Speedway on June 2. Travis Kvapil, who won at Texas last fall, drove his Chevrolet to second place, 2.36 seconds behind. Gaughan, in his 24th career start, led the final 59 laps and became the ninth winner in as many truck races at Texas.

Last year: Dennis Setzer held off Scott Riggs and ended a 17-race drought with a victory in the Memphis 200. Setzer grabbed the lead on the 166th of 200 laps and outran the Dodge of Riggs the rest of the way. Setzer's Chevrolet held a 1.608-second lead -- about a dozen truck-lengths -- at the conclusion of the race.

Fast facts: No polesitter has won a race this season. The winner's average starting position is 9.71. ... There have been six different winners in the first seven races this season. The only other time that has happened this far into the season was 1998. ... Greg Biffle won the pole in 1998 and led the first 109 laps before tire problems took him out of contention. Ron Hornaday went on to win the race. In 2000, Biffle was the first driver to win the season title without winning a race on a short track. ... Points leader David Starr qualified second at Texas but had to start at the back of the field after an engine change. He finished third. Starr, who has a winless streak of 54 races, is the only driver to finish among the top-10 in all seven races this season. ... Rich Bickle is expected to return to the circuit this weekend. Bickle, who has three career truck wins, will be driving for Countryman-Ballew Motorsports in place of the released Trent Owens.

EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX

Site: Nurburgring, Germany.

n Schedule: Saturday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 5 a.m.); Sunday, race (Speed Channel, 6:30 a.m.).

Track: Nurburgring (permanent road course, 3.196 miles).

Race distance: 60 laps, 191.76 miles.

Last race: Michael Schumacher drove to Ferrari's 150th Formula One win with a dominating drive at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on June 9 that strengthened his grip on a record-tying fifth F1 championship. Schumacher recorded his 59th career win, six in eight races this season, and his fifth Canadian Grand Prix triumph.

Last year: Michael Schumacher won the European Grand Prix, taking advantage of a 10-second penalty that ended younger brother Ralf's challenge. Juan Pablo Montoya matched his season best by finishing second, 4.2 seconds behind Schumacher after 67 laps on the 2.831-mile circuit. Ralf Schumacher finished fourth. He was penalized for crossing onto the track too soon after a pit stop.

Fast facts: Since last year's race, the course's milage was lengthened from 2.831 to 3.196, while laps were shortened from 67 to 60. The track has also been modified since then, including changes on the first corner. ... Jacques Villeneuve has won twice at the Nurburgring in his six-year Formula One career. In 1996, the European Grand Prix was his first ever win in only his fourth race with Williams. ... Nurburgring has held the European Grand Prix since 1984. ... Michael Schumacher has six wins in eight starts this season and owns a commanding 43 point lead over Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher in the standings.

NASCAR BUSCH SERIES

Last race: Todd Bodine edged Greg Biffle by .036 seconds to win the rain-delayed Kroger 300 in Sparta, Ky. Biffle spun out as the cars raced side by side, giving Bodine his first Busch victory since March 2001. Bodine was debating whether to participate in the Winston Cup race after the Busch race was postponed one day due to rain.

Last race: Points leader Cristiano da Matta won the G.I. Joe's 200 at Portland International Raceway, holding off Bruno Junqueira late to win his second consecutive race. Dario Franchitti finished third.

INDY RACING LEAGUE

Last race: Gil de Ferran led 217 of the 225 laps and recorded his first IRL victory at the Radisson Indy 225 in Fountain, Colo. He held off Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves by 1.4385 seconds on a track that endured two separate rain storms.

Last event: Larry Dixon earned his career-high seventh Top Fuel victory of the season while teammate Ron Capps won the Funny Car category to give team owner Don Prudhomme two NHRA trophies at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Hebron, Ohio. Greg Anderson recorded his second Pro Stock win of the season.
