SOUTHEAST SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS MOREHEAD STATE
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Southeast first baseman Reagan Hamlin hit home runs in both ends of a doubleheader, including a grand slam in the second game, as the Otahkians swept Morehead St. 7-5, 9-3 Saturday in Ohio Valley Conference softball action.
Southeast (12-22, 9-10) built a 7-0 lead in the opener and withstood a five-run rally by Morehead (9-28-1, 5-10-1) in the bottom of the seventh. Kelly Birk (6-7) picked up the win, allowing six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Brooke Nett, Jennifer Cobin, Courtney Eklund, Kemi Rampi and Hamlin all had two hits for Southeast, which had 14 overall. Molly Cope (6-17) suffered the loss.
The Otahkians fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of the second game, but moved ahead for good with a three-run second. Southeast took a 4-3 lead into the seventh, where Hamlin connected for a two-out grand slam, part of a five-run inning off losing pitcher Jacque Jackson (2-5).
Kristen King (2-9) allowed six hits in going the distance for Southeast.
Cobin, Hamlin and Kristy Roherty each had two hits in the Otahkians' 10-hit attack.
Central swimmers set career marks at meet
Several members of the Central girls' swim team set career bests Friday and Saturday, although the team finished 11th out of 12 teams in a tough Parkway South event in St. Louis.
Central's best event finish was eighth in the 400-meter freestyle relay, where the team had its season-best time. Several teammates beat career bests by as much as 15 seconds.
Central tennis team second in tournament
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Central boys' tennis team finished second in the six-team Poplar Bluff Invitational.
Sikeston won with 24 points and Central had 21.5.
For Central, the doubles team of Trevor Blattner and Andy Tansil won with a record of 4-0. The Tigers took second in doubles as Andrew Eaton and Eric Daume went 3-1.
Seabaugh sinks first Dalhousie hole-in-one
Ron Seabaugh of Jackson, Mo., made the first hole-in-one at the new Dalhousie Golf Club. Seabaugh used a four-iron to sink a 180-yard, par-3 shot on hole No. 5. Witnesses were Mark Allen, Larry McKinney, Bill Morgan and Tom Viers.
Local racing rained out; late models added Wed.
Racing at Fredericktown (Mo.) Raceway was called off Friday because of rain. The track will hold a special Wednesday event this week featuring open-wheel modified, mini stock and mini sprint classes. UMP-sanctioned late models also have been added to the program scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

The Rams, who used all three first-round picks on defenders last year, took UCLA linebacker Robert Thomas with the 31st pick of the first round of the draft. Thomas, a middle linebacker in college and the Pac-10 defensive player of the year, is expected to contend for a starting outside spot with Tommy Polley, a second-rounder last year and the prize of last year's class.
Fullback James Hodgins will be staying with the Rams, who matched the Broncos' five-year, $5.5 million offer sheet. The Rams waited almost until the 11 p.m. Friday deadline before deciding to match the offer, which includes a signing bonus of $1.1 million.
Motorsports
Jack Roush, the NASCAR owner who fields four Winston Cup cars, remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition a day after the small plane he was piloting crashed near Troy, Ala.
Jason Keller avoided a 16th-lap crash that involved 29 of 43 starters, then held off a challenge from Stacy Compton to win the Aaron's 312 Busch Series race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Tim Fedewa was third, the only other car on the lead lap.
Tennis
Carlos Moya defeated Tim Henman 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 for a place in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters. Moya will play Juan Carlos Ferrero for the title today. Ferrero defeated Sebastien Grosjean 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
Jennifer Capriati was stunned by Patty Schnyder 6-4, 6-3 in the Family Circle Cup, setting up the first top-tier WTA Tour final between unseeded players.
Schnyder will face Iva Majoli, who beat No. 7-seeded Sandrine Testud 6-2, 6-4.
