SUMMER BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Capahas fall to Millers on the road

The Burger King Capahas were handed their first loss of the season on Wednesday, as the host Waterloo, Illinois, Millers scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to come away with a 7-5 victory.

Chase Simmons finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Capahas (5-1) at the plate, while Josh Haggerty went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Capahas combined for 11 hits in the game but committed two errors.

The Capahas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Waterloo quickly regained the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Capahas rallied with two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings but were held scoreless through the final three innings.

Lance Young got the start and was tagged with the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work. He gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Brady Wright relieved Young and threw 4 2/3 innings. He scattered three hits, allowed two earned runs, struck out six batters and walked three.

The Capahas will try to bounce back at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they host the St. Louis Bulls at Capaha Field.

Thele, Post 158 topple Sikeston Silver Sox

Triston Thele finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs, leading the Jackson Post 158 Senior Legion team to a 14-3 win over the Sikeston Post 114 Silver Sox Senior Legion team in seven innings in Jackson, Missouri.

Tyler Amos and Garrett Thele each added a pair of hits for Jackson (9-6, 1-1 District 14), which scored three runs in the bottom of the second, five in the third and six in the fifth. Thele finished with three RBIs.

Zach Elfrink threw six innings and picked up the pitching win for Post 158. He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Jordan Griggs was tagged with the loss for Sikeston in 2 2/3 innings of work. He allowed seven runs (all earned) and scattered four hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Jackson returns to action with a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. today against host Pemiscot County Senior Legion.
