Cape Senior Legion to play for fifth
The Ford & Sons Cape Girardeau Post 63 Senior American Legion baseball team beat West Memphis, Ark., 12-11 at the Paragould, Ark., tournament Saturday.
Jimmy Obermark belted a grand slam to help Post 63 rally from an 11-4 deficit in the fourth inning.
Billy Fender scored the winning run on a double by Shawn Prince.
Skylar Cobb, Ryan Grigaitis, Dustin Crowden, Fender and Prince all had two hits.
Tyler Glidewell earned the win in relief.
Post 63 will play for fifth place today.
The win came after Post 63 lost to Jonesboro, Ark., 18-10 on Friday.
Josh Henson went five innings in the losing effort.
Austin Greer powered Post 63 with two home runs and three RBIs.
Cape Junior Legion goes 1-1 at tourney
The Plaza Tire Cape Girardeau Post 63 Junior American Legion baseball team split a pair of games at the Paducah, Ky., tournament.
Post 63 knocked off Pekin, Ill., 4-3 behind Ronnie Scott's seven solid innings on the mound.
Jake Conklin and Andrew Hileman both collected two hits in the win.
Post 63 then fell to Lone Oak 13-1.
Stephen Carman took the loss, and Post 63 (17-6) only had two hits in the contest.
Jackson Junior Legion sweeps games
The Jackson Junior American Legion baseball team went 3-0 to earn a spot in the Paducah, Ky., tournament's final four.
Jackson opened the action with a 16-5 victory over St. Mary. Trey Parker picked up the win, while Mason Sander went 3-for-4.
Jackson followed that win by taking care of Anheuser-Busch 5-1.
Ryan Gendron earned the win, while Logan Bartels and John Bohnsack both went 2-for-3.
Jackson earned a spot in the semifinals with a 5-4 win over Lone Oak.
Bohnsack was the winning pitcher, while Sander and Bartels both went 1-for-3 for Jackson (30-2).
