The Cape Girardeau Post 63 Plaza Tire Junior American Legion baseball team lost to Lone Oak 5-0 in its first game at the Fourth of July tournament in Paducah, Ky.

Ethan Dambach went five innings and allowed three runs to suffer the loss.

Christian Cavaness went 2 for 3 for Post 63 (15-12).

Cherokees get off to hot start

The Cherokees Baseball 18-and-under team got off to a 3-1 start in pool play at the Keith Hagan All-American Tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

The Cherokees opened the tournament with a 4-3 loss to the Ontario Blue Jays on Tuesday. They rebounded with an 8-0 win over the Houston Heat Silver later Tuesday. Notre Dame graduate Colton Young struck out 10 batters and gave up just one hit in the five-inning complete game victory.

The Cherokees got another shutout win Wednesday with a 9-0 dispatching of the Dallas Titans in five innings.

The Cherokees defeated the Rawlings Titans 3-2 on Thursday behind a complete-game performance from Jake Kinsinger.

Matt Crader got the go-ahead RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
