Cape Senior Legion downs Jackson
The Cape Girardeau Post 63 American Legion baseball team only needed eight innings Saturday to dump Jackson 10-0 in the District 14 tournament at Senath-Hornersville High School.
Dustin Crowden got Post 63 started with a three-run homer off Caleb Hosey in the first inning. Crowden, who will be a senior at Kelly High School, went 3 for 5 with five RBIs.
Crowden's offensive outburst was more than enough for Post 63 pitcher Josh Henson, who went all eight innings. Henson struck out seven and walked three.
Post 63's defense turned three double plays as it improved to 28-13.
Jackson rebounded later Saturday with an 11-4 victory against Sikeston in an elimination game. Ethan Sachs earned the win.
Chris Kirkpatrick, Evan Watkins and Kendall Fay all delivered key hits for Jackson.
Jackson will face Poplar Bluff at 1 p.m. today in another elimination game.
Post 63 will face Dunklin County in the winners bracket final at 4 p.m. today. The loser of that game will face the winner of the Jackson vs. Poplar Bluff game at 7 p.m. today.
