Dunklin County ralliespast Cape Legion

Dunklin County scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a four-run deficit and defeated Ford & Sons Cape Senior American Legion 10-7 in District 14 action Tuesday night in Senath, Mo.

The game was the first in a doubleheader.

Dunklin County took over first place in the district with the win, a game ahead of Cape.

Trey Bazzell's two-out single scored Kaleb Canoy to snap a 5-5 tie, then Parker Watkins hit a three-run homer over the fence in left field to give Dunklin a four-run cushion.

It was Dunklin County's third home run of the inning.

"We played really well most of the ballgame, then we made a couple of bad pitches and they made us pay for it," Ford & Sons coach Steve Williams said.

Cape's Dustin Crowden connected for a third-inning grand slam to stake Ford & Sons to a 5-1 lead.

Crowden went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, including a double.

Ryan Grigaitis, Josh Henson and Jimmy Obermark each had two hits for Cape.

Jackson Jr. Legionearns top seed

The Jackson Junior American Legion baseball team claimed the top seed in this week's district tournament with a split of a doubleheader with Cape Junior Legion.

Cape won the first game 12-11, but Jackson came back to beat Cape 19-10 in the nightcap.

Cape's Ronnie Scott posted the win in the first game, while Jackson's Trevor Beussink took the loss.

In the second game, Dylan Koehler posted the win for Jackson, which improved to 32-3. Stephen Carman took the loss for Cape (19-7).

John Bohnsack went 4-for-6 for Jackson in the second game.

The district tournament begins Thursday at Central High School. Cape will play Sikeston at 11 a.m.; Jackson will face Sikeston at 1:30 p.m.
