Stuckey triggers Capahas' sweep against Riverdogs

A pair of well-placed, late-game singles by Denver Stuckey scored the game-winners Sunday to secure the Craftsman Union Capahas a sweep over the Cape Girardeau Riverdogs at Capaha Park.

The Capahas (16-5) won 2-1 and 4-3.

In the first-ever meeting between the two independent teams, the Capahas broke a 1-1 tie scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Stuckey singled to left field and pushed home the game-winner from second base.

Jason Chavez replaced Ricky Pecaut after five innings, then struck out two over the final two innings for the win. The Capahas had only four hits, including a 2-for-4 day by Chris Sledge, who added a pair of stolen bases.

Matt Stroup went the distance for the Riverdogs and struck out four and walked three.

Apair of errors combined with another single by Stuckey in Game 2 -- this time to center -- broke a tie and led to the winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

Tristen McDonald and Dan Berry were 2-for-3. Berry's bases-loaded single in the second drove in a pair of runs in the Capahas' three-run second inning. The Riverdogs made it 3-3 after three.

Justin Holmes pitched the final three innings with a strikeout, no walks and a hit for the win. He replaced Justin Simpher, who went the first four innings.
