CRYSTAL CITY -- St. Vincent rebounded from being no-hit the day before by winning two games in the Jefferson County Conference Tournament Saturday.

The Indians, no-hit by Herculaneum in tournament play on Friday, defeated Crystal City 8-6 and St. Pius 6-5 in Saturday's tournament play.

St. Vincent, which climbed to 9-9 on the season, finished the round-robin tournament with a 3-1 record. St. Pius and Herculaneum also finished 3-1, but Herky was awarded first place on a tie-breaker.

"It was a very good day," said St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy, who saw his offense break out of its slumber in a seven-run, sixth-inning rally against Crystal City.

The Hornets blanked St. Vincent through the first four innings and took a 6-1 lead into the sixth. The Indians used three infield hits, two errors, a clean single, a walk and a sacrifice fly to score seven runs in the inning.

"Only two balls left the infield," said Valleroy. "We got a couple of breaks and things opened up and continued into the St. Pius game."

Trent Sauer went the distance for the win. He allowed 10 hits, walked four and struck out three. Cory Strattman, Gabe Hotop, Pat Brown and Bryan Meyer all had two hits in St. Vincent's 11-hit attack.

Dusty Wengert pitched around trouble throughout the St. Pius game for the win. Wengert went all seven innings, allowing 12 hits, walking five and striking out four.

Strattman went 3-for-4 for St. Vincent. Hotop added two hits as St. Vincent had 10 overall.
