VANDALIA, Mo. -- St. Vincent continued its tradition of sectional success in the 1A state playoffs with a 28-0 victory over Van-Far Thursday night.

St. Vincent, which improved to 11-0, will travel to Westran, Mo., on Monday. Westran advanced with a 15-14 sectional victory over Sweet Springs.

The Indians overcame a first-quarter blocked punt deep in its own territory in shutting out Van-Far (4-6).

With the game still scoreless in the second quarter, Adam Bockman intercepted a Van-Far pass to give St. Vincent possession at its own 40. Mark Gotto scored on the ensuing drive, running in from 1-yard out. Derek Kutz added the extra point for a 7-0 St. Vincent lead with three minutes left in the half.

Quarterback Jonathan Paulus upped the lead to 14-0 in the third quarter when he scored from 11 yards out.

The Indians iced the game with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Eric Lindsley scored on an 8-yard run and Bockman on a 5-yards run.

"We didn't play bad considering the field condition," said St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler.

Winkler was especially pleased with the defense that held Van-Far's star running back Nay Douglas to around 50 yards.
