St. Vincent's football team moved up one spot to earn the No. 1 ranking in Class 1A in this week's state media poll.

St. Vincent is 3-0 this season and has posted wins over Carlyle, Ill., Fredericktown and Park Hills. Fredericktown and Park Hills are both 3A schools.

"We don't really pay that close attention to them (polls)," said St. Vincent coach Paul Sauer. "It's nice to be there but it's one of those things that's an opinion. I think we have to concentrate on what we do on the field Friday night."

The Indians, who took second in state last year, have allowed just three touchdowns in three games, and one of those touchdowns was against St. Vincent's second team.

"We kind of looked at the team (at the beginning of the year) and felt we have quite a bit of talent," Sauer said. "We by no means thought the cupboard was bare after last year. We feel we have a pretty good group."

Cass-Midway held the No. 1 position last week, but it dropped to fifth after suffering a 20-0 loss to Rich Hill.

New Madrid County Central, which defeated Cape Central 34-7 two weeks ago, moved into the Class 3A poll at No. 10. The Green Wave is 3-0 after posting blowout wins in each of its first three games.
