St. Vincent captures first place at Saxony

St. Vincent needed overtime Friday night, but the Indians were able to capture the championship of the six-team Saxony Lutheran Christmas Tournament.

The Indians (5-4) completed a 3-0 tournament by slipping past Ste. Genevieve 69-64.

Eric Clements led the Indians with 16 points, followed by Greg Finger with 14 and Waylon Richardet with 11.

Richardet also pulled down 20 rebounds; he had 52 rebounds in the tournament.

Zach Richardet hit a 3-pointer early in overtime to put the Indians ahead for good, as they outscored the Dragons 10-5 in the extra period.

"These three games in the tournament are the best three games we've played this year," St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy said.

Waylon Richardet and Clements made the five-player all-tournament team.

Host Saxony Lutheran (8-2) claimed third place by rolling past COSL 55-32 behind 14 points from Tim Lorenz and 13 from Casey Petzoldt. Petzoldt was an all-tournament selection.

Rounding out the all-tournament team were Ste. Genevieve's Kyle Faulkner and COSL's Tyler Scheffner, who scored 18 points against Saxony Lutheran.

Zalma defeated Ste. Genevieve Valle for fifth place.
