ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Louis Blues weren't about to let a three-goal rally go to waste.
Al MacInnis scored on a slap shot with 2:01 left in regulation to lift the Blues to a 4-4 tie with the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night.
MacInnis' goal came just 42 seconds after Andrew Brunette gave Minnesota the lead.
Brunette, who also had two assists, scored a power-play goal with 2:43 to play. But MacInnis' shot from the right circle got the tie for the Blues, who rallied from a three-goal deficit in the second period.
"It's tough to get the equalizer, especially at that stage of the game," Blues coach Joel Quenneville said. "We're happy to come out of here with a point."
Scott Mellanby and Sergei Varlamov scored nine seconds apart in the second period to start St. Louis' rally from a 3-0 deficit. Dallas Drake ended a 36-game scoreless streak with a short-handed goal that tied it at 17:22 of the second.
"This is a tough team to come back on, especially when you're down three," Quenneville said. "Getting one right away and then getting the second one right away -- all of sudden you're back in the game."
St. Louis is 4-0-1-0 over its last five games, while the Wild are 4-1-2-1 over their last eight.
Ladislav Benysek scored for Minnesota just as a power play was ending 5:51 into the game, and Darby Hendrickson made it 2-0 with a power-play goal five minutes later.
Pascal Dupuis took advantage of a slip by Blues defenseman Chris Pronger to score a short-handed goal 6:14 into the second to make it 3-0. Pronger stopped a pass to the point by Doug Weight with his right skate but lost his balance. As he fell, he attempted to knocked the puck away, but only moved it into the neutral zone, giving Dupuis a breakaway. Dupuis beat Fred Brathwaite high to the glove side.
Mellanby scored his third goal of the season at 6:43, and Varlamov scored just nine seconds later to make it 3-2.
Drake then took advantage of a giveaway by Sergei Zholtok at the Wild blue line to come in alone and score his first goal since March 10.
