PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent High's volleyball team, finishing its regular schedule strong, won an emotion-charged match on the court of its cross-town rival Perryville High Tuesday night.

After dropping the first set 6-15, St. Vincent bounced back with wins of 15-3 and 17-15.

St. Vincent survived a match point at 14-11 in the third set before rallying for the win.

"It's a nice time to be peaking," said St. Vincent coach Stacie Bauwens. "That's what you want."

The Squaws are 10-13-4 overall, but have won four of their last five, including two victories over defending 1A state champion Leopold.

Jessica Lakenan hammered 18 kills for St. Vincent. Teammate Stephanie Schremp had 15 service points and Casey Kirn had 16 assists.

Perryville (11-14-2) got nine blocks and three kills from Amy Verseman; seven points and 13 assists from Nicole Blechle; 11 assists from Shannon Dreyer; and nine points from Jeni Blevins.

Perryville won the JV match 15-4, 15-12.

St. Vincent goes to Meadow Heights Thursday for its final regular-season match while Perryville is finished until next week's districts.

Jackson 15-15

Chaffee 3-8

JACKSON -- Jackson won its final home game in impressive fashion Tuesday night, improving to 26-2-2 in the process.

Kara Thoma led the Lady Indians with seven kills, while Chrissi Glastetter had six kills and two aces, Sara Johnson had three kills and six digs and Heather Brown had 20 assists and two kills.

Jackson won the JV game 15-5, 15-7.

Jackson concludes its regular season schedule tonight at Scott City.

Notre Dame 15-10-15

New Madrid 6-15-1

Notre Dame improved to 14-11-2 by winning at home Tuesday night.

Kelly Canfield had eight kills and Erin Vickery added six kills.

The Lady Bulldogs' JV prevailed 15-12, 15-13.

Notre Dame will have its final regular-season match Thursday at Leopold.

Bell City 15-10-15

Bloomfield 6-15-1

BELL CITY -- Bell City saw its final home match extended to three sets, but came away victorious Tuesday night.

After splitting the first two games, Bell City rolled to a 15-1 win in the deciding game.

Courtney Brockmeyer led the Bell City (16-8-1) charge with 11 kills and six digs. Kelli Steiner recorded 11 assists and Brooke Stephens finished with 12 service points.

Bell City visits Oran Thursday night.

Scott City 15-15

Cape Central 8-8

SCOTT CITY -- Central fell to 5-14-2 by losing on the road Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers will finish the regular season Thursday night at home against Advance. Scott City hosts Jackson tonight.

BOYS SOCCER

Notre Dame 3, Whitfield 3

ST. LOUIS -- Notre Dame scored three second half goals Tuesday to salvage a tie with Whitfield in the St. Dominic Tournament.

Notre Dame (14-2-4) went 1-1 in pool play. The six-team tournament concludes Friday.

Whitfield led 1-0 at halftime, but Notre Dame tied the score just minutes into the second half when Ryan Fenwick deposited a Zach Miller pass.

The next two goals belonged to Whitfield for a 3-1 lead.

Notre Dame answered with goals by Zach Miller and Chris Dirnberger, the latter coming with 12 minutes left in the game.

Tommy Wencewicz assisted on Miller's goal. Miller picked up his second assist on Dirnberger's tally.

"We kept our composure," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "I thought we grew up some tonight."

Jackson 2, Notre Dame 1

Jackson prevailed Tuesday in the Cape Central JV Tournament.

Timmy Wencewicz scored Notre Dame's goal.

Cape Central Tournament

Poplar Bluff and Sikeston won first-round games Tuesday in the Cape Central eighth grade girls tourney.

Poplar Bluff routed Jackson 59-26 despite 15 points from Jackson's Jenna Leet.

Sikeston edged Cape Central 25-22. Victoria Wilson led Cape with nine points.

Today's 6:30 p.m. finals will pit Poplar Bluff against Sikeston. Jackson and Cape will square off at 5 for third place.
