The tracks may change. The cars may change.
But a busy schedule of racing on Labor Day weekend is a constant.
Here are the events that likely will send area fans and racers onto the highways this weekend:
The 52nd annual Ted Horn Memorial 100 for USAC Silver Crown sprint cars goes at 1:15 p.m. Sunday on the mile dirt track at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds. The event has about 40 pre-entries, including Rod Holshouser of Cape Girardeau. J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz., is the early favorite and stands to be the only driver besides Tony Stewart to win all three USAC titles (Silver Crown, sprint, midgets) in a single season.
A day later the ARCA Re/Max Series gets top billing for its 100-lap event that's likely to feature an unusual age range. Among the drivers pre-entered are 71-year-old Red Farmer of Hueytown, Ala., and at least three racers age 18 or under (Justin Algaier is 16, Shelby Howard 17 and Chase Montgomery 18). Dexter's Jim Eubanks is the only Southeast Missouri racer entered.
UMP-sanctioned modifieds will compete both days.
Tickets for both days are available from Track Enterprises (217-764-3200) or at www.trackenterprises.com.
Auto Tire and Parts Racepark near Benton, Mo., will offer $2,000 to win its sprint feature Saturday as part of McDonalds Race Night.
St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Mo., will hold a regular program Saturday, then return Sunday with sprints, WOW-sanctioned limited sprints and modifieds.
Montgomery Co. Speedway near Warrenton, Mo., will pay $1,500 to win for late models both Saturday and Sunday.
Big Boy Speedway near Dyersburg, Tenn., will pay $1,000 to win in modifieds Saturday. Prize money in fast street, slow street, mini stock and cruiser classes also is boosted for one night.
Fredericktown Raceway will hold double features for all classes Friday after their events were rained out last week. That means twin features in late models, pro stocks, hobby stocks and RAMS mini stocks.
