POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Sr. Babe Ruth Yankees continued their hot start to the season by winning a doubleheader from host Poplar Bluff Sunday.
The Yankees (4-0) prevailed 6-1 in the opener and 13-7 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Brennan Gibson pitched five innings for the victory. He allowed one run and two hits while striking out four and walking none. Garrett Williams gave up no hits over the final two frames, with two strikeouts and one walk.
Ricky Renfroe drove in two runs to lead the Yankees' offensively.
Williams had two hits and two RBIs while scoring three runs in the nightcap. Adam Ralls had two hits and two RBIs while Gabe Keys and Jacob Roth added two hits apiece.
James Powell, Cape's third hurler, nabbed the win. He worked the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and two hits, with one strikeout and no walks.
Williams started and allowed one run on two hits in three innings, with one strikeout and two walks. Scott Wittenborn allowed four runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings, with two strikeouts and one walk.
