BENTON, Mo. -- This small community will be buzzing with girls fast-pitch softball activity this weekend as the Missouri Babe Ruth Softball State Tournament for 10-under, 12-under, 14-under and 16-under age groups is held.
The tournaments will begin at 6 p.m. today at Benton Ballpark. Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m., with Sunday's play starting at 1 p.m.
In all, 13 teams will be competing with four each in the 10-under and 12-under. Three are competing in the 14-under and two in the 16-under.
There will be seven local Benton-based teams competing in the various divisions.
Other teams participating hail from Washington, Mo., and the Bootheel Conference, which consists of Sikeston, New Madrid, Kennett, etc.
The top two teams from this weekend's tournaments will advance to regional competition.
