CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Austin Peay State University basketball star Trenton Hassell has elected to keep his name in the June 27 National Basketball Association draft.

Hassell originally submitted his name for the NBA draft May 9. Wednesday was the deadline for any player who has not signed with an agent to remove his name for next week's draft. As a result, Hassell will not return to the Governors for the 2001-2002 season.

The 6-foot-5 Hassell, a guard/forward, earned Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors last season as he averaged 21.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Hassell is regarded as a probable first-round NBA draft pick.
