ELFRINK, WILLIAMS WIN HORSESHOE GROUP EVENT
LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Tyler Elfrink and Melody Williams won the nine-team Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event Sunday at the Leopold Knights of Columbus Hall. Bob Burnett and Herman Campbell were second with Lachelle Cook and Danny Williams third.
In Saturday's event at the Kelso (Mo.) Country Club, Cori Stoverink and Doris Stubenrauch teamed for the win against six other teams. Elfrink and Mary Kay Schlosser were second with Burnett and Bob Tyler third.

COLLEGES
Missouri has begun a search for a new softball coach to replace Jay Miller, who will not be retained. Miller was 556-309 in 15 seasons with the program, and the Tigers were 29-33 overall and 4-14 in the Big 12 last season, finishing ninth in the conference.
Curtis Williams, paralyzed from the neck down while playing football for the University of Washington in October 2000, died. He was 24. Williams died at his brother's home in Fresno, Calif., Washington athletic department spokesman Jim Daves said.
Tennis
Andre Agassi routed Nicolas Kiefer 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the Rome Tennis Masters Series tournament. Teen-ager Andy Roddick followed Agassi onto center court and defeated Spanish clay-courter Alex Calatrava 6-2, 6-3. Earlier, Marat Safin overpowered Alberto Martin 6-2, 6-2.
