Cape Road Runners host youth meet

The Cape Road Runners will be hosting a youth track meet 9 a.m. Saturday at Central Junior High with between 250 and 300 athletes expected to participate.

The meet will feature athletes ages 4 to 16, including members of the Junior Road Runners Club.

One of the club members, James Fulgium, is coming off three victories last weekend in the 11-12 age group at the Chaffee Invitational, hosted by the Chaffee Cheetahs. Fulgium, from Cape Girardeau, won the 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter runs. He also was honored with a sportsmanship award at the meet.

Erlbacher cards hole in one at Kimbeland

Cis Erlbacher of Cape Girardeau fired a hole in one Tuesday at Kimbeland Country Club. Erlbacher used a 9-iron to ace No. 12, a 77-yard par 3. Witnesses were Connie Messlein and Pat Harrison.

Dow wins A flight in Jaycee Ladies

Sharon Dow was the champion of the A flight Tuesday in the Cape Jaycee Ladies Golf League at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Carolyn Blechle won the B flight. The play of the day, "throw out your worst hole," was won by Deanna Peterman.

Evelyn Riley and Jan Keefe shared the low putts of the day.

Dalhousie beats Paducah in Senior Challenge

The Dalhousie Golf Club avenged last year's loss and coasted to victory against the Country Club of Paducah on Sunday in the second annual Senior Challenge.

The 10-man teams played 27 holes at Dalhousie in three seperate formats -- four-ball match play, Chapman match play and singles matches -- with each match victory worth one point.

Dalhousie swept the four-ball and held on for a 13-7 victory.

Ken Swinford of Jackson had his second career hole in one during the event. Swinford used a 7-iron to ace No. 5, a par 3 playing at 152 yards. Witnesses were Jeff Patton, Jim Straub and Jim Brown.
