Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate Ross Bennett was selected Monday to the All-Big 12 Conference baseball team as selected by the league's coaches.

Bennett, a junior designated hitter at Baylor, is second on the Bears in hitting with a .357 average. He has five home runs, 14 doubles and 37 runs batted in.

The Bears received an invitation to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year Monday.

The Jackson Junior American Legion baseball team finished tied for third in its eight-team Memorial Day Tournament that ended Sunday.

Jackson (2-1) beat Kirkwood 13-3 in five innings to finish second in its pool. De Soto also tied for third after placing second in its pool.

Tyler Profilet went 3-for-3 with five RBIs for Jackson. Kyle McMinn had three hits while Tyler Beussink and Derrick Biri added two each. Tony Longman was the winning pitcher.

Brentwood defeated Sikeston 3-2 in the finals.
