Baseball

• The players' association filed a grievance Monday seeking to overturn the Anaheim Angels' suspension of left fielder Jose Guillen. Guillen was suspended without pay for the rest of the season on Sunday because of his outburst after being lifted for a pinch runner a day earlier in Anaheim. The suspension would continue into the postseason if the Angels advance that far.

Basketball

• Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury was a runaway selection Monday as the WNBA's rookie of the year. Taurasi became the second No. 1 overall draft pick to win the award, joining Chamique Holdsclaw of Washington in 1999.

The point guard was fourth in the league in scoring (17.0), 10th in assists (3.9) and 14th in minutes played (33.2), while also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals.

College

• Taurean Henderson, of Texas Tech, and Baylor's Willie Andrews and Braelon Davis were named Big 12 players of the week on Monday.

Henderson had 169 yards rushing, including a game-winning 70-yard touchdown run with less than three minutes remaining in Texas Tech's 31-30 come-from-behind win against Kansas.

Andrews forced a fumble, had five unassisted tackles, including three for a loss and two sacks in Baylor's 37-14 win over North Texas. He also had six punt returns for 49 yards, including a 21-yard return.

Davis, a freshman, gave Baylor its first touchdown when he blocked a North Texas punt and recovered it in the end zone.

• Missouri starting linebacker David Richard's future with the team is uncertain after his arrest on marijuana charges.

Richard, 21, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 11, Columbia police Capt. Marvin McCrary confirmed Monday. Police, dispatched to a report of a party in a neighborhood, heard loud music coming from a parked car, a 1999 Dodge Intrepid registered to Richard.

Motorsports

• An organization calling itself the National Association for Minority Race Fans has set up a web site and is apparently planning protests at some NASCAR Nextel Cup races before the end of the season.

The NAMRF has made inquiries to officials in Hampton, Ga., the home of Atlanta Motor Speedway, about the possibility of staging a protest during the week of the Oct. 31 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. There were also indications the group might hold a protest before the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.
