• Jason Berryman, who spent most of the past school year in jail, is back on the Iowa State football team.

Iowa State coach Dan McCarney announced Thursday night that Berryman had received the grades he needed in his summer school classes to regain his eligibility. McCarney had said earlier in the day that was the last hurdle Berryman needed to clear before being allowed to rejoin the team.

Berryman spent 258 days in the Story County Jail for mugging an Iowa State student and taking $4 from him and stealing another student's cell phone.

McCarney allowed Berryman to work out with the team this summer while he evaluated the former star defensive end's attitude and academic work. He said Berryman met all his obligations.

* Central Oklahoma sports information director Mike Kirk says Oklahoma State's top returning rusher Seymore Shaw is transferring to U-C-O.

Cowboys coach Mike Gundy suspended the 23-year-old Shaw in June after he was charged with first-degree burglary, larceny, domestic abuse and malicious injury to property. Shaw is pleading innocent to all charges and will have a preliminary hearing September 21st.

Shaw will be able to play this season because the Broncos play in Division Two. He graduated in May and will have one season of eligibility at Central Oklahoma.

Shaw played in all 12 of Oklahoma State's games last season and rushed for 377 yards and two touchdowns on 81 carries.

Golf

* As sure as the ball will fly 10 percent farther at altitude, the International will be delayed by rain.

For the 20th straight year, weather delayed the PGA Tour's only stop in Colorado. Heavy, persistent rain wiped out play Thursday, meaning the tournament will begin today, when the forecast for calls for a 30 percent chance of rain.

Thus the tournament was added to a long list of weather problems on the tour this season. This is the 15th tournament to be disrupted by rain, but the first day to be completely washed out since the BellSouth Classic in April.

PGA Tour officials said they would try to get the first round in today, then determine the rest of the schedule depending on how things go.

* Annika Sorenstam shot a 2-under 70 Thursday to trail fellow Swede Liselotte Neumann by two shots after the first round of the Scandinavian TPC.

Neumann had five birdies and one bogey for a 4-under 68 on the Barseback course, where Sorenstam helped Europe win the 2003 Solheim Cup.

Sorenstam, who is hosting the tournament, shared second place with Carin Koch and Marta Prieto.

The 39-year-old Neumann finished tied for fifth in last week's Women's British Open at Royal Birkdale.
