Tournament set for Sept. 2 at Kimbeland; Temm wins tourney at Cape Country Club; Riley, Angle tie in Jaycees ladies play; Southeast gymnasts honored for academics

Young records fourth career hole in one

Robyn Young of Cape Girardeau knocked home her fourth hole-in-one on hole No. 4 at Kimbeland on Saturday during the Jacks 'n Jennies mixed scramble tournament.

Young used a 9-iron from 105 yards on the par-3.

Witnesses were Ron Unterreiner and Ron and Phyllis Seabaugh.

Tournament set for Sept. 2 at Kimbeland

Kimbeland Country Club will host a two-man three-way tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 2.

The entry fee is $35 for the tournament, which features nine holes of best ball, nine holes of scramble and nine holes of alternate shots.

Temm wins tourney at Cape Country Club

Alice Temm won the Cape Girardeau Country Club Ladies Day handicap tournament on Thursday.

Temm scored a 66 to edge Mary Ellen Bean by one stroke. Deb Mealy was third with a 68.

Five players -- Brenda Vanden Brook, Kathy Morris, Linda Tewis, Beth Mapes and Mary Alice Regenhardt -- tied for fourth at 69.

Four players -- Leslie Steele, E.R. Fischer, Shirley Moore and Betty Michel -- tied for ninth at 70.

Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Vanden Brook on Nos. 2 and 8, Robyn Young on No. 6, Jean Mabrey on No. 11, Mary Jane Efftink on No. 13 and Shirley Moore on No. 16.

Morris had the longest putt on No. 18.

Riley, Angle tie in Jaycees ladies play

Evelyn Riley and Lil Angle tied for first in the play of the day -- best poker hand -- on Tuesday in J.C. Chip-A-Ways action at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

Sissy Burnett was the medalist, Kim Kelley won the B flight, and Deanna Peterman had the low putts.

Southeast gymnasts honored for academics

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics squad was honored by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches as a NACGC Academic Team for their work in the classroom during the 2004-05 season.

This is the sixth straight year the Redhawks have received the honor. The team had a grade point average of 3.15.

Also, six Southeast gymnasts were named NACGC Scholar Athletes for having a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The six are seniors Kelly Baldridge (3.71), Tara Boldt (3.5) and Amanda Grimes (3.65); juniors Natalie Watts (3.6) and Brystol Powelski (3.65); and sophomore Alison Ezell (3.75).
