Southeast tennis receives honors
The Southeast Missouri State women's tennis team and three of its members recently earned honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2004-05 school year.
Kimmy Anderson, Puja Paul and Kim Roberts earned the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, which goes to players with grade point averages of 3.50 or better.
Anderson is a graduate of Jackson High School.
Southeast was given the ITA All-Academic Team award, which goes to squads with a grade point average of at least 3.20.
Fifteen Ohio Valley Conference tennis players earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Murray State led the way with six and Morehead State had four, followed by Southeast with three. Murray State and Morehead State joined Southeast in receiving the team award.
Mary Van Cleve was the medalist in Tuesday ladies golf at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
Linda Williams won the play of the day, which was "throw out the worst hole."
Jean Graham won the B class, and Carol Brown had the low putts.
Mike Cotner used a 4-iron to score a hole-in-one Tuesday on the sixth hole at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
The par-3 hole played at 188 yards. Fred Ducharme witnessed the shot.
Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau will host the Gateway Section PGA team championship on Monday.
The two-man four-ball (best ball) event begins at 9 a.m. and includes 36 holes of golf. General manager Andy Deiro and head golf pro Scott Roe will form Dalhousie's team in the event.
Leslie Steele was the medalist Thursday in the Cape Girardeau Country Club Ladies Day Golf.
She also tied for first place with Betty Michel. The play of the day was "pink ball."
The Tour de Homecomers bicycle ride is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Aug. 13. The event includes rides of 15, 30, 60 and 74 miles. Rest stops with food and drinks will be set up along the route.
