Ken Griffey Jr. went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a torn right hamstring and will miss the All-Star game. The Cincinnati outfielder was injured Saturday night while trying to run down Brady Clark's drive to right-center in the fourth inning of a 5-0 loss to Milwaukee. An MRI revealed a partial tear of the muscle. Griffey plans to go to Houston to participate in ceremonies, but will not take part in the Home Run Derby or Tuesday's game, Reds spokesman Rob Butcher said. He will be replaced by the Astros' Carlos Beltran on the NL roster and Lance Berkman in the Derby. Beltran, recently traded by the Kansas City Royals, became the first player to be chosen for one All-Star team and wind up on the other side.

Johnny Miller's son reached the championship match of the Utah State Amateur, then withdrew because he said it goes against the teachings at his Mormon church. "What I do on Sundays is more important than golf," said Todd Miller, who plays college golf at BYU. Clark Rustand was declared the winner by forfeit at Jeremy Golf and Country Club. Miller teaches at his ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He said he did not want to be hypocritical by playing the finals after stressing the importance of not working on Sundays."I don't think I spoiled it for the others," Miller said. "They had a chance to win. Maybe I spoiled it for Rustand. I can play him Monday if he wants." Because of logistics, course availability and other conflicts, a Monday playoff wasn't an option.

Michael Schumacher was tested at the British Grand Prix -- if only for 15 laps. Schumacher won for the 10th time in 11 races this season, but not before holding off last-ditch challenges from McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello. A crash on the 40th lap resulted in a safety car, reducing Schumacher's seemingly comfortable lead and setting up an intense 15-lap race to the finish. Schumacher prevailed again, however, for the 80th victory of his career.

Carlos Bocanegra scored late to give the United States a 1-1 tie against Poland in an exhibition game at Soldier Field. Bocanegra headed Landon Donovan's corner kick in the 88th minute past goalkeeper Artur Boruc and forward Ireneusz Jelen. Piotr Wlodarczyk scored in the 76th. U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard blocked Marcin Burkhardt's cross attempt, but allowed the rebound to roll to Wlodarcyk.

Barbara Schwartz beat Lisa Raymond 10-8 in the third set to clinch Austria's upset of the United States in the Fed Cup quarterfinals. Coupled with Barbara Schett's 6-3, 6-2 win over Chanda Rubin in the day's opening match, Schwartz's 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-8 victory gave Austria a 3-1 lead in the best-of-five series. The hosts wrapped up a 4-1 victory when Schett and Patricia Wartusch beat Martina Navratilova and Jill Craybas 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. It was Navratilova's first loss in 41 career Fed Cup matches.
French Open champion Gaston Gaudio and Mariano Zabaleta won rain-delayed semifinals in straight sets, setting up an all-Argentine final at the Swedish Open. Gaudio beat Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-2, while defending champion Zabaleta defeated Fernando Gonzalez 6-1, 6-4. The championship match will be played today.
Wimbledon champion Roger Federer beat Igor Andreev 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 Sunday to win the Swiss Open for the first time. It's the tour-leading seventh title of the season for the top-ranked Federer, who has won his last nine finals. Federer had to play four matches in three days because of rain delays.
