Montreal right-hander Tomo Ohka could be out as long as three months after breaking a bone in his pitching arm Thursday when struck by a line drive. Ohka was struck by Carlos Beltran's drive in the third inning. The break occurred right where the ball hit, just above the right wrist. Ohka (3-5) had not lost in six starts.

The Bowl Championship Series added a game without adding a bowl but is no closer to a playoff than before. The BCS will play five games at the current four sites starting in the 2006 season, with the bowl that hosts the national championship game also holding an earlier postseason game. A committee of school presidents unanimously approved the double-hosting model presented to them by the BCS conference commissioners. Under the new model, the championship game will still rotate between the Sugar, Fiesta, Orange and Rose bowls, but it will be played about a week after the other four games. The name of the championship game has yet to be determined.

Laura Wilkinson will have to be content with trying to defend her individual gold medal at the Athens Olympics. Wilkinson and Kimiko Soldati were beaten by Sara Hildebrand and Cassandra Cardinell in synchronized 10-meter platform at the U.S. diving trials Thursday night in St. Peters, Mo. The Wilkinson-Soldati team, formed just six months ago, earned the United States its Olympics berth with a fourth-place showing at the World Cup. But it's Hildebrand and Cardinell who will be representing the country in Athens. On the men's side, Mark Ruiz clinched a return trip to the Olympics, teaming with Kyle Prandi to win the synchro platform.
